Puppy Mill Action Week

Puppy Mill Action Week is November 16 - 22. Learn more about puppy mills and the ugly truth about buying puppies over the internet or from stores such at Petland. Please adopt from local shelters or rescue groups.

Hint: if you think the adoption fee the shelter or rescue group is "too high" you can not afford to a have a dog. At a minimum, dogs need a good quality dog food and regular vet care. They also need a leash, a collar, a dog license (required by the county you live in) and grooming supplies such as shampoo and nail clippers.

Your dog will need someone to stay with them when you travel or to walk them if you work long hours. They need fresh air, exercise and above all, your time and your love.

Adoption a puppy or dog is a life long commitment. Educate yourself. Choose wisely.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Pine Bluff Kennels - the largest puppy mill raid in US history

Pine Bluff kennels currently holds the distinction of being the largest ever puppy-mill raid in the history of the United States. The kennel kept almost 750 dogs in filth, without the basics of adequate food, water, shelter and medical care.

Felicia Earley, ASPCA Forensic Veterinary Assistant, writes about the dogs at Pine Bluff in her blog:

"Almost every dog from Pine Bluff Kennels was rail thin, matted and dirty, with horrid teeth and very long nails. They all smelled strongly of urine and feces. A few were in need of immediate emergency medical attention."

So before you buy, ask yourself where did the cute little puppy at the local dog store come from? Buying over the internet? Think again!! Better yet, adopt from a local shelter. When you adopt from shelter, you are saving two lives. The puppy you take home, plus now there is space for another at the shelter.

Educate yourself --

My Little Brother Frankie

I have a younger brother, Frankie. He's also known as Frank, Franklin and Frankie Dude. We get along pretty well, but can be demanding, especially for a boy.
We use to fight a lot about who got to sit in the Mommy's lap, but we finally worked out a deal where inside the house he gets the lap, but anywhere outside the house, I get the lap. Yes, even a princess has to compromise sometimes.

Oprah takes on puppy mills - watch on Friday, April 4th

My mommy is on the mailing list for The Humane Society of the United States and received a message - Ms. Winfrey taking on the puppy mills. On Friday, April 4th, she's devoting her show to educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills and the very sad life these doggies have.

Find out why it's important to know where a puppy really comes from before you take it home.

You go Oprah! No more puppy mills!!!

I can't believe it . . . I'm a senior

Today my Mom came home from the grocery stores with lots of bags. Now I love checking out the bags from the grocery store, because I know there's aways something in there for me.

So I'm going bag to bag and then I stop cold. It's my bag of dog food but it now has the word "senior" written on it.

What? Am I reading correctly? Blue for Senior Dogs? I look up at my Mom and I know she sees me, but she pretends not to notice me glaring at her.

Senior dog? When did I become a senior dog? OK, I have a little gray on the muzzle, but I notice that box of hair color in the shopping bag so I don't think you have any room to talk. Maybe I have put on a pound or two, but aren't your jeans a size bigger than they were say two or three years ago?

Senior Dog? I'm not a senior dog. That's the golden retriever down the block. Sheesh that thing must be at least 5 or 6 years old . . . whoops. I just remembered, I'm 7. Let me see that bag . . . "senior" is 7 or older . . . oh no . . . I'm getting old.

I'm not Pet of the Month . . . yet

The mail just showed up, including the local monthly paper. I search for the "Pet of the Month" feature and found it on page 20.

Oh no! It's not me! It's someone named "Hope" who is looking for a new home because her mother is allergic to her fur. Oh . . . well, I guess if I were looking for a new home, I'd want my picture in the paper, too.

I do have a pretty good life. After all, I have a house, a pool to lounge around, a backyard with a big fence so I'm safe, daily leisurely strolls around the neighborhood, an extended family that loves me, two meals a day plus snacks plus all the food that drops on the floor that I get to before anyone else does. Yep, I'll admit it. It's a good life for little dog.

I do hope "Hope" finds a new home soon. Doesn't everyone deserve a loving place to home?

The Seal Hunt Started Today In Canada

I may just a puggie but I read about the horrible things that happen in the world to other animals. Please educate yourself about Canada's annual seal hunt. Hundreds of thousands of baby seals will be killed in the largest commercial hunt of marine mammals on the planet.

Seal Defense Campaign and HSUS are both great places to learn more so you can make an educated choices about where you shop and what you buy. Please don't support this inhumane and horrific activity by unintentionally purchasing products made from seal oil or from fashion designers that use seal skin.

For more information, please visit Canadian Seal Hunt or the Humane Society of the United States to learn about how companies like Costco sell seal oil capsules. Also learn about these companies who manufacture products from dead baby seals: Prada, Pajar, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Birger Christensen, Versace, and Vogue Furriers. Also learn about why you should boycott these sea food restaurants Red Lobster, & Long John's Silvers.

Never a moment of privacy

You think you're all alone, enjoying a quiet moment, passing the time away by chewing on your favorite stuffed animal and then out of no where WHAM! a camera snaps an unflattering photo. Gee, now I know how Britney feels.

When I saw this photo, I just couldn't believe it. I look so sinister, so unrefined, just staring into space, chewing away.

I'm really not like that at all. I'm actually a peacful little puggie princess, except of course, when food is involved. Then it's everyone for themselves, but I'm sure you'd be the same way if you had to sit around and wait for someone to feed you. If I only had that opposable thumb I could get that refrigerator door open, all my problems would be solved . . .

Spa Day

Today is Spa Day. "Spa Day" as my Mommy refers to it, is the day I get a bath and have my nails trimmed. I really don't like this, but I allow it to humor my Mommy.

During each and every walk I search out only the finest of fragrances and then roll in them to perfume myself. I think I smell fabulous. My smell is uniquely mine and it takes a lot of work to get it just the way I like. Then wham! Spa Day comes along and this bath thing undoes all my hard work.

I don't really understand the nail trimming thing either. I thought long nails were in. I've seen humans with nails much, much longer than mine and no one seems to think it's odd.

Of course the best part of Spa Day is I get Greenie after my bath. I run around in the sun, dry my fur and stiff for good smells to roll in.

Could I be pet of the month?

I'm so excited. My Mom helped me enter the Pet of the Month contest in a local publication. She filled the form out for me, but I told her what to write. We had to talk about my special skills, so I mentioned my blog, my modeling and my work for Pug Rescue.

I wanted to talk about my my ability to hear the refrigerator open no matter where I am, even in the backyard, but I didn't want to over do it. If I'm chosen, I get my picture published in the newspaper! Since they only choose one per month, it make take a while, but I'll keep everyone posted.

It's been raining

Good morning! It's Wednesday and it's been raining here the past few days. I don't mind the rain, but I don't like thunder. It's loud and it roars. What kind of animal makes such as sound? I've never seen it, but is scares me so I hide under the bed. My Mom always tells me there's nothing to be afraid of, but I don't think she knows what she's talking about. For now, I keep hiding under the bed.

I wish I had a thumb

I was laying by the pool today and all of sudden realized I don't have a thumb. Normally these types of things don't bother me, but I thought about what life would be like with thumb. I could use my thumb to grip and open things, like refrigerator doors, cabinets, bags of greenies. I could use the remote control on for the tv, text message people on my cell phone (if I had a cell phone). Oh the things I could do if I only had a thumb.

Food . . . dog food that is.

There's some nasty stuff in some of those bags.

A few years ago, my mom found out something rather disturbing -
what's really in pet food. I'll give you a hint: those "meat by-products" aren't what you think. It's parts that are not generally consumed by humans. YUCK! That's just the beginning.
I recommend taking a little time to learn what's really in dog food before feeding your little puggie.
Dog Food Analysis is an independent website to learn more about what you're feeding your little puggie. Check it out and tell me what you think.

All quiet at the ranch

Hello all,

Phew things have been busy! My favorite Grandma and Granddad came to visit for a few days. As usual, I got a extra snacks, a extra walks, extra kisses and someone around all the time to tell me what a pretty girl I am!! All of this makes me very, very happy!

Did I mention I do fund raising? I use
Goodsearch to search the web instead of those other search engines. Each time I search using Goodsearch, my favorite puggie rescue group, Pug Rescue of Sacramento, gets one cent. Now one cent may not seem like a lot, but image 100 people using Goodsearch just two times a day. That would be an extra $730 for the puggies and it wouldn't cost the 100 people anything!! So I use Goodsearch for my web research, as well as Goodshop when I shop online. Every little bit helps, so thank you for helping out my fellow puggies.

It's been busy

I have no idea what happened. One minute your napping in the sun and the next you wake up and it's JANUARY. January 2008 to be exact. There have been road trips and lots of visitors in the past few months. I've even had another photo sh0ot. I just haven't had time to write. That's gonna change in 2008. After all, how does everyone know what's going on if I don't write about it?

Outside of my blog, I'm thinking of opening my own cafepress store. It would be a bit of work, but hey, I have all those photos of me, so why not share the wealth. Who wouldn't want to see my puggie face on their morning coffee cup? Hmmm???

It's late here so I have to get some sleep. I just wanted everyone to know I haven't forgotten about them.
